XLTerra TechnologyXLTerra, Inc. is a technology leader developing a high performance renewable engineering bioplastic (PXLK). PXLK is sustainably produced and sourced from rapidly renewable non-food hemicellulosic parts of biomass. PXLK bioplastic has exceptional properties that are in line with the best fossil carbon based plastics and superior to known major bioplastics such us PLA, PHAs, and cellulose acetate. XLTerra's technology provides a unique value proposition for making agriculture and forestry economically more efficient by enabling the use of C5 sugars, especially xylose ("wood sugar") derived from hemicellulose. Production of xylose from hemicellulose-containing biomass does not need to wait for the maturity of the lignocellulose to mono-sugars technology. XLTerra's feedstock integration approach is enabled by two industrially proven practices for a century long production of C5-derived xylitol and furfural from xylose and other pentoses. XLTerra's bioplastic has a unique ring structure with properties that provide high heat deflection (Tg 115°C). PXLK is a transparent, colorless, ductile (not brittle) polymer displaying exceptional optical clarity, high impact resistance, thermostability and excellent tensile strength. |
